ЩИПЕЦ (англ., фр. gable, нем. Giebel) — верхняя часть стены здания, находящаяся между двумя скатами крыши. В отличие от фронтона и полуфронтона Щ. не имеет зрительно обозначенной нижней границы; верхние края могут быть как прямыми, так и фигурными (ступенчатыми, криволинейными). Ажурный Щ. в форме острого угла в архитектуре готики называется вимперг.
